Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 gets Android Ginger bread 2.3.3 Upgrade by Q3 of 2011

Sony Ericsson has officially confirmed Android Ginger Bread 2.3.3 update for Xperia X10. They have not exactly specified the launch date but are sure to unveil at Q3 of this year 2011.Though the mobile manufacturer was not actually interested earlier to upgrade X10 beyond Android Eclair.

But they have changed their mood to fulfill the desire of people constant requests. Sony Ericsson is happy to bring up this major update following its Xperia PLAY, Xperia arc and Xperia neo actual success. Now Xperia X10 is available in in generic trade version and in versions customized for operators.

Ginger Bread on Xperia X10 is anticipated to focus on trade versions of the software. We may expect both the functionality of Android 2.3.3 as well as Sony Ericsson specific User Experience and features.

Android 2.3.3 on XperiaTM X10 Features

  • Android Standard Camera User Interface but neglects face recognition and smile shutter features.
  • Ginger Bread Native EAS for Moxier
  • Media experience widgets and music player for Mediascape
  • No DRM keys for phone content protection
  • Native Sony Ericsson Backup and Restore client will be lost on update
  • Support for Bi-directional languages diminishes when compared to the 2.1 version of the Xperia X10.

The upgrade can be accessed by PC-based upgrade clients only and not by Air. And the main thing is there is no downgrading. i.e if you are not satisfied with Android 2.3.3 you cannot step back to 2.1. Integrate third party application for data back-up since you may lost it on new upgrade process.(Read More:Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to get Gingerbread in August?)

But the content store on memory card is not affected except DRM protected content. Sony Ericsson has posted that they are keen about Ginger Bread and that inception made them to surpass 2.2. Hope, this might be the last upgrade to Xperia X10 as per source.
The Xperia PLAY, arc, neo and pro are launched on the latest version of Android for smartphones (Gingerbread 2.3) and they plan to upgrade these to the next version of Android (beyond 2.3).
